Since Maximo was developed in 1985, asset management has evolved significantly from CMMS through Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) to todays Strategic Asset Management.

SAM advances the effectiveness of corporate-wide asset management in two ways. From one perspective, it goes forward from where EAM stops by recognising that companies exist as a complete system of assets.

In other words, production assets, facilities, fleet and IT are inter-related and by functioning effectively together across the value chain, they contribute to the business mission and success.
