Cable reel role January 1st 2005 Kabelschlepp Metool has supplied T A Savery & Co with cable reels for what it says is the largest and most complex hydraulic ring main system in the UK.
The system has been designed for the Defence Aviation and Repair Agency ‘super-hangar’, part of Project Red Dragon at St Athan in South Wales.
The cable reels will be used to carry hydraulic hoses to and from aircraft in the service bays so flaps, rudders, undercarriage and other hydraulic systems can be operated without powering up the main engines.
Metool has supplied 64 cable reels of two types to feed and remove mineral oil at temperatures to 70°C from aircraft during maintenance. Hoses are used in pairs; each aircraft is serviced by two pairs.
During maintenance, the aircraft hydraulic system is fed by a high pressure flow line of 1in nominal bore, capable of 5000psi working pressure, at a rate of 180L/min. Oil returns along a lower pressure line, with a 1.25in nominal bore, capable of 3000psi working pressure. More articles from Kabelschlepp Metool: |
