Gives the right mix
January 1st 2005

A well known biscuit manufacturer has installed two Krohne Optimass Coriolis mass flowmeters to help it achieve much tighter process parameters, reduce waste and increase production throughput.

Measured amounts of syrup and fat are mixed during the production of ginger biscuits. Accurate measurement of these ingredients previously had been difficult because their viscosity can change significantly, causing particular problems during summer and winter months.

Despite using jacketed lines and fluid heaters, the flowmeters used by the company in the past were not sufficiently precise.

Now, two Optimass mass flowmeters measure the precise amount of fat and syrup being pumped from vessels into the mixer irrespective of the material’s viscosity. An output signal from the meter is fed to a PLC that controls valves that feed the ingredients.
