Oxygen monitoring technology
September 1st 2004

Scottish Power Generation (Generation UK) has ordered more Rosemount Analytical Oxymitter 4000 oxygen analysers from Emerson Process Management, who installed 16 units in a previous refurbishment of the 2400MW power station.

Generation UK relies on continuous oxygen monitoring using the Oxymitter transmitters to maintain optimal efficiency and good operation of steam boilers. It is also important for its continuous emission monitoring system.

The Oxymitter 4000 was chosen because of the fast response of the zirconia sensor, together with its high level of accuracy and repeatability. Ease of installation and minimum maintenance requirements were additional benefits.

Two lengths of probe, 6 and 9ft, were used to position sensors across the large ducts, allowing any stratification of the flue gas composition to be detected.

Smart transmitters using HART communications enable routine checks and calibrations to be carried out from ground level using the Emerson 275 Hart communicator.
