QUICKLY DETECTS TANK CORROSION January 1st 2005 An improved service for the accurate inspection of bulk storage tanks in the petrochemical, chemical, processing and shipping industries has been introduced by Veritec Sonomatic.
The magnetic exclusion surveying system detects underfloor corrosion. Called Floorscanner, the compact equipment is designed to fit through a standard 24in (minimum) man way and is ready to use in minutes with minimum surface preparation, giving immediate, spot-on location of possible corrosion.
Based on magnetic flux leakage techniques, the inspection system will work on rough, rusted surfaces and through paint or epoxy coatings, even when these have broken up.
The standard unit is optimised for use on 6mm plates, but will operate on plates up to 12mm thick. It scans a path 310mm wide and up to 12m long at a speed of about 0.5m/sec.
The operator is given an immediate visual indication of possible corrosion pitting and, during each scan, a map of possible defect sites is built up on a screen and is down-loadable to a printer. More articles from Veritec Sonomatic Limited: |
