Static: simple solution
September 1st 2003

Meech Static Eliminators has solved a static problem at Tetrapak MPSs new bottle making plant in Essex. To keep production running smoothly, even when there is a temporary lull in requirements, Tetrapaks client, Arla Foods, allows the company to bag bottles into sealed units. However this was causing problems as, during manufacture and transport around the factory, the blow-moulded bottles acquire considerable static charge. They are very low in weight, so the static charge had a powerful effect, making bagging difficult. The solution is provided by a Meech ionising blower installed over the transfer conveyor immediately prior to collation. It blows ionised air over sealed bottles, removing static and allowing bottles to be moved and stacked without problem.
