Hybrid heat exchanger
September 1st 2007 Developed to combine the thermal
efficiency of a plate heat exchanger
with the pressure and temperature
resistance of a shell and tube unit,
the new AlfaDisc all-welded
exchanger from Alfa Laval is
suitable for duties involving high
pressures and temperatures, such
as steam heating, and applications
involving aggressive fluids.
The exchanger is for use with
liquids, gases and two-phase
mixtures at
temperatures to
538°C (lowest
temperature -
195°C) and
pressures to
72barg.
A multipass
unit, it
has a plate
side and a
shell side, which
can handle up to
four passes on each side, with hot
and cold media flowing through
alternating channels in either cocurrent
or true counter-current flow.
This configuration is said to
increase the thermal efficiency of
the AlfaDisc and enables close
