Efficiency boosted
May 1st 2004

A global car manufacturer is using oil-free vacuum pump technology to improve its production process. The GV80 dry vacuum pumps from BOC Edwards have solved maintenance problems on the assembly line brake filling station.

Two brake circuits are evacuated, filled and leak tested in just 60sec, before the next car approaches.

To achieve this, the station has three vacuum pumps one for each brake circuit plus a back-up pump.

Dry pumping technology offers clean pumping with no risk of oil contaminating the process and, the company says, the GV80 pumps ensure uninterrupted operation.

Other benefits include a consistent pump-down time of 30sec and low operating temperatures to protect seals in the brake circuits.

GV Drystar pumps are expected to run continuously for three years, while GVM versions have a six year major service interval.
