Short & long term solution
September 1st 2005

Busch has resolved pump installation problems for speciality chemicals company Avecia. A Busch Cobra vacuum pump had been set up by a third party and did not adhere to installation guidelines. It had been installed at ground level and the exhaust pipe ran vertically outwards, resulting in condensation leaking into the pump and creating a thick residue build-up.

Busch advised that, in the short term, the pump should run against a closed valve when not in use to prevent seizure and suggested that the pipework should be sloped away and drained through a drop leg and storage pot. As a longer term solution, it suggested lifting the pump off the ground.

Avecia has since bought a reconditioned pump with a Busch maintenance contract.
