Single wire technology
March 1st 2009

The increasing use of cavity pressure monitoring for quality assurance during the injection moulding of small products in multi-cavity moulds is making the installation of the sensors more difficult. To meet this challenge, Kistler Instruments has applied its single wire technology to a range of sub-miniature, indirect cavity pressure sensors.

The sensors, mounted behind the ejector pin, measure cavity pressure by using the force on the pin and its cross-sectional area. The sensors use the same precision, piezoelectric technology as Kistler's direct measuring pressure sensors and have a virtually unlimited service life at operating temperatures of up to 200°C.

The single wire, on-site replaceable cable can be cut to length after installation and several cables can be passed down a single bore helping to simplify multi-sensor installation.
