Floor check January 1st 2004 The Surtronic Duo from Watco UK can be used to measure and assess the surface of flooring and work surfaces for slip resistance. Results can then be used to satisfy health and safety regulations.
The handheld instrument can be used on concrete, vinyl, tiles, painted wood and terrazzo. The user needs no special training and a reference chart is included for easy risk assessment.
A 5 micron diamond moves across a sample area to measure tiny peaks and troughs on the floor surface. The difference between these points indicates how rough or smooth the floor is. The measurement is then checked against a reference chart as used by the HSE to categorise the slip potential. This can then be recorded in a risk assessment file.
