Floor raising without mess
January 1st 2005

One of the major hurdles to dealing with flooring settlement in a factory or warehouse is how to correct the problem without loss of production.

Mentor-Medical was faced with the prospect of a six month closure and production relocation to allow floor slabs in its main production area to be torn up and the entire foundations reinstated.

Built on waste land, 800m3 of the floor had sunk in a dip of up to 40mm. To avoid factory closure, Mentor’s engineering manager was advised to try the floor lifting method offered by Uretek UK.

The company’s resin injection system fills voids to increase the bearing strength of the concrete and sub base. It also lifts and relevels sunken joints and slabs. This is achieved quickly, accurately and with minimum disruption, often while the business continues to operate.

During a two-week general maintenance shutdown in August, Uretek was on site for five days.

Two teams worked quickly to raise the main production area and the warehouse floor.

With level guide strings in place, it was easy to see how bad the dip had become and how rapidly it was restored to level, with no dust or mess.
