Slab repairs steel the day
September 1st 2008

CG Flooring Systems has solved a flooring problem for multi-metal and steel stockholder, Aalco, at its Halesowen plant.

After an initial survey, CGFS recommended slab and joint repairs followed by installation of a 10mm fast track cementitious pump screed for the warehouse area. However, it was discovered during initial repairs that the concrete slab was not strong enough to meet the client's future operating requirements. The floor was only 75mm in some areas.

CGFS proposed a full repair. Core samples were taken around the area to determine the slab depth at which three problematic areas were identified.

Working over two weekends, CGFS broke out the floor area to 180mm deep. Areas were then saw cut for sharp arris edges, and dowel bars inserted as a load transfer mechanism.

Damp proof membrane and reinforcement mesh were installed prior to pouring a rapid strength concrete floor.

The second weekend included surface preparation by shot blasting and diamond grinding to prepare for installation of the industrial flooring system. A 10mm cementitious fast floor system was installed to 1135m2 in one day. It dried within 3 to 4h and was ready for operation on the Monday morning.
