Green solution
September 1st 2006

A six bedroom house with basement sauna, gym, swimming pool and cinema has opted for a 'green' solution to its heating needs.

A Nibe Fighter 1320 brine/water heat pump has been installed, connected to a bore hole in the garden, to handle heating needs for the pool, hot water and underfloor central heating.

Water from an underground source is pumped to a Nibe Plex heat exchanger and dumped to one of the estate's three lakes. The system uses latent heat in the ground, with energy pumped in a solution of water and antifreeze from the Plex heat exchanger. Brine loses its heat to the refrigerant in the pump's evaporator, the solution is vaporised then compressed to increase temperature before release into the house's heating system.
