Prepare for winter weather
September 1st 2008

This year, with gas and oil prices so high, Byworth believes it is paramount to assess boiler condition in readiness for the winter months.

It recommends a quick visual check of insulation both around the boiler and pipework and says that replacing damaged lagging will certainly pay for the time and materials in saved energy costs.

Likewise a burner and boiler service will ensure the boiler will run at peak efficiency and should be carried out twice a year. Annual inspections need to be up-to-date and a stock of vital spares in the boiler house is recommended.

Should the boiler not be able to run, emergency rental boilers are available which can be delivered and connected in hours. Byworth can supply heating boilers from 100kW upwards, and boilers which can supply hot water for washing.

Steam boilers are available from 250 to 18000kg/h with multiples available for higher demands.

If boilers are old and inefficient it may be viable to replace them with new, more efficient units, with energy saving features. The X-ID tube from Byworth is an example.

The company says fuel savings could be as great as 25% if boilers are in bad condition, but a boiler energy survey can give more accurate savings predictions.
