Refrigerant leaks: the need for quick action
September 1st 2008

In today's world an increasing importance is being placed on carbon footprints, environmental legislation and ever-rising energy costs. The drive to find technologies, such as effective fixed refrigerant leak detection systems, that provide benefits in these fields, is gaining in strength.

For the refrigeration system operator the previously 'invisible' pollution of a few cylinders of lost refrigerant, will have to be recorded and these records will be closely scrutinised. The loss of any refrigerant will no longer be economically, socially or legally acceptable.

To stem this loss, leaks must be promptly identified and located to allow rectification before any significant portion of the charge has been lost. To provide effective leak detection, it requires more than just purchasing an ineffective plug and play type detector, fitting it to the plant room and ticking a box on a compliance form.

Parasense will advise the system operator/contractor on cost effective methods of ensuring all the areas that are vulnerable to refrigerant emissions on the plant are monitored, to ensure refrigerant loss is kept to a minimum.
