Sara meets DDA challenge
September 1st 2005

Sara/Loading Bay Specialists has secured a contract that tested its ability to satisfy the Disability Discrimination Act and Building Heritage.

The challenge was to supply a disabled persons lift for a government building refurbishment in Whitehall.

Sara installed a scissor lift with stainless steel platform and handrails (with glazed infill). Access at street level is via an automatic gate, with a pressure sensitive auto closer. There are call buttons at upper and lower levels and the lift has up, down, stop and alarm buttons.

A light curtain is installed in the hand barriers at the edge of the upper level. If its beams are interrupted, the lift will not be allowed to move down.
