Back-up role for cast iron boilers at University September 1st 2004 The back-up heating facility for the new Biosciences complex at the University of Liverpool uses Broag cast iron sectional boilers with a combined duty of 2.42MW.
The two 13-section P500 boilers have been installed as a stand-by to match the building’s constant temperature HTHW/LTHW plate heat exchangers. The PHX are fed by a district heating system fired by a CHP unit with a turbine output from 7MW (no supplementary gas boiler) to a maximum of 13MW (with supplementary gas boiler). The CHP is a dual fuel gas turbine supplying heat to two thirds of the campus.
The Broag boilers are housed in the main plant room at basement level in the refurbished part of the complex. Fully modulating burners were installed to accommodate the variable heating load of laboratories and specialist rooms.
The P500 has an output range between 635 and 1900kW, offering efficiencies to 90.5% NCV (81.5% GCV) at full load and up to 92.7% NCV (83.5% GCV) at part load. The design provides optimum combustion with low NOx and CO emissions. The boiler will accept return water temperatures as low as 40°C (both gas and oil fired).
An integral instrument panel features high/low operation and hours-run meters. More articles from Broag UK Ltd: |
