£51000 saved in year one September 1st 2005 A hot water system based around five Boss plate heat exchangers (PHEs), made by Alfa Laval for BSS UK, has saved Derriford Hospital in Plymouth £51 000 in its first year of operation.
Changes to the hospital’s hot water needs meant that it was no longer economic to store huge volumes of hot water. This prompted the switch to PHEs that would provide flexibility and ondemand supplies when needed.
Over-capacity in the non-storage heating calorifiers is used as the primary heat source for the PHEs.
This released HTHW capacity for a seven-storey cardiac block and eliminated the need for insurance inspections due to the switch from HTHW to LTHW as the primary heat source for the main installation.
The BSS system is based around five Boss UC50S PHEs that make the most of existing over capacity. More articles from Alfa Laval Limited: |
