Evaporative system helps staff keep their cool
September 1st 2005

Installation of a Breezair evaporative cooling system on a new production line at Kingspan Insulation’s factory in Herefordshire has reduced summer temperatures from a sweltering 30°C at upper levels of the factory to a more comfortable 20 to 22°C at floor level.

Spectrum Air Systems has roofmounted the 10 TBA Breezair units from Seeley International, that are supported on a simple roof upstand, connected to the roof zpurlins via a supporting h-frame.

Installed around the factory to provide localised spot cooling to the production line operators, the units have introduced filtered air up to 6°C below ambient.

Operators have a cooler working environment and benefit from humidified air that provides a fresh feeling in the otherwise airless environment.

The environmentally-friendly Breezair system is said to be economic to install, cost effective to run and to consume less energy than conventional air conditioning systems. It is capable of providing sufficient cool air to overflow and prevent hot air entering a building.

Fresh air is continually drawn from outside, filtered and washed, so the potential for sick building syndrome is avoided.

Spencer Murtagh, operations director at Kingspan Insulation, comments “We have an active health, safety and welfare committee at the factory and members have commented how effective the Breezair system has been in improving their work environment”.
