Clean sweep
November 1st 2005

Road sweepers from Nilfisk- Advance are helping to keep runways clean and safe at BAE Systems' sites at Samlesbury and Warton. Regular sweeping of carparks and internal roads is vital to prevent foreign objects and debris blowing on to runways and causing a hazard to aircraft.

Support services company Sodexho invested in an RS 500 and RS 850 road sweeper to ensure fast, efficient outdoor cleaning at the sites.

The RS 500 has a 500L hopper and weighs 1500kg, making it easy to transport. Its powerful 34HP diesel engine provides strong suction for picking up bottles, stones and so on.

The RS 850 has an 850L hopper, low noise level, can climb 18% slopes and overcome 17cm kerbs and steps. An optional third brush and a snow roller brush and salt spreader are available for the RS 850 and also for a larger machine in the series - the RS 1300.
