Recycling waste
September 1st 2004

Nilfisk-Advance has designed and installed a cleaning and waste extraction solution for Hanson Aggregates. The tailor-made fixed vacuum system is being used to collect and then recycle waste debris, including sand, gravel and granite, generated during the production of asphalt.

The fixed system comprises a GB 1033 suction unit, a 40 cubic foot interceptor tank and 30m of steel pipework. Five inlet flaps have been installed throughout the plant, and operatives simply plug-in a flexible hose and switch on. Two thirty minute cleaning sessions each week are expected to ensure waste material doesnt build-up, so ensuring a clean working

environment and reducing potential damage to machinery.

Site manager, David Gifkin explains, The new system is a distinct improvement on our old manual sweeping methods, and being able to recycle what we collect is an added bonus.

As part of the system, Nilfisk-Advance has incorporated a pneumatic air valve at the top of the interceptor that allows useful extracted material to be routed back to production, so

eliminating costs involved

in waste storage and disposal.

The GB 1033 is suitable for fixed systems with several inlets and pneumatic transportation. It is equipped with three phase motors and has a maximum airflow of 192l/s. The high capacity hopper allows longer running before emptying and reduces the volume of dust getting into the filter, so power is maintained and reliability increased.
