SAFE WORKING AT HEIGHTS OVER 15M
January 1st 2005

Hurst Building Services has made extensive use of scissor lifts hired from AFI Aerial Platforms to carry out mechanical and electrical installation work at a new Instore head office and distribution complex in Huddersfield.

Hurst used six scissor lifts, on a five-month hire period, to provide high level access for installing lighting, trunking and ductwork in the new centre. A range of 5390 and 9250 scissors were selected from AFI’s fleet of more than 1600 machines to enable contractors to work safely at heights in excess of 15m.

Tony McPhillips, Hurst’s electrical foreman and site manager for the Instore project, says “The scissor lifts gave us flexibility and mobility to move around the distribution centre while carrying the materials we needed. Their doubleextending decks gave us an 8m long platform that meant we were able to install two 4m lengths of trunking without moving.” The 5390 has a maximum height of 16.2m and the 9250 can reach up to 17.2m. The machines were fitted with wheel covers to protect the floor.
