Demag Cranes & Components has helped treble the storage capacity at NSD’s steel stock holding facility in Scunthorpe.

Sustained growth necessitated extra storage capacity and, in January 2004, the company started developing nine acres of land adjacent to the site.

Fundamental to the development of the increased storage area was the ability to lift and move steel to all parts of the site. Demag installed four 30m span portal cranes, each giving coverage of a 30 by 200m area of the stock holding yard.

The 8+8t capacity of the cranes was specified to ensure that trailers could be loaded and unloaded in one lift for speedy turnaround.

Inverter controls are incorporated within the integrated wire rope hoists to provide smooth, accurate lifting and movement of loads, even in windy conditions.

The radio remote control crane systems have cable wheel reeling drum to ensure safe control of power supply cables throughout the 200m length of travel.
