Olympic star July 1st 2005 Better known for its industrial applications, Fibreglass Grating was a key performer at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
A lake was constructed around a submerged platform to enable the opening performers to appear to ‘walk on water’. The water then drained away creating a stage on which thousands of competitors made their entrance.
The platform had to be light enough to be assembled and disassembled quickly, yet strong enough to hold thousands of people, and remain non-slip even when covered with water.
Fibreglass Grating supplied its floor grating for the project. It is as strong as steel yet only a quarter of the weight, can be manoeuvred by one person and fitted using only hand tools. Its integral top surface is non-slip even in wet conditions. More articles from Dura Composites Ltd: |
