When Hayes Tubes identified areas of inefficient energy use within its factory, the decision was taken to install an Allen Martin energy management system to control space heaters in the factory and the office boiler system.

The new system allows for variations in programmed occupancy levels, and a number of overrun times were incorporated. By temporarily overriding the bems, the system permits extended use of the factory heaters (1h at a time) and the office heating (up to 4h at a time).

Space heating energy savings in excess of 40% (15 500 therms) were achieved in the systems first year of operation. Cost savings to the company were more than 5300. Payback took less than 15months.
