Citrus odour replaces stale, sour stench of urine July 1st 2005 Pub chain JD Wetherspoon believes it has found the answer to a problem that has troubled publicans for years – the stale, sour smell that obstinately clings to urinals.
A pilot scheme set up to introduce the Sani-Sleeve system developed by Enviro-Fresh into selected Wetherspoon houses around the country has proved successful. All the pubs chosen reported a significant improvement in the washroom environment, a considerable reduction in customer complaints and a saving in both staff time and water use.
The system involves the use of an odour-lock tube that extends below the water level in the urinal trap and is topped by a cap containing a biological block with a faint citrus odour. The entire unit is replaced every three months, never allowing the build up of uric salts that cause the obnoxious odour.
The use of loose blocks, a cause of urinal blockages, is eliminated and the urinal’s flush cycle can be reduced without affecting efficiency or hygiene in the washroom.
Following the success of the pilot scheme, JD Wetherspoon is introducing the Sani-Sleeve system to other houses in the chain.
It is estimated that if and when Sani-Sleeves are installed in all Wetherspoon pubs, there will be a saving of 600 million litres of water per year. More articles from Enviro-Fresh Limited: |
