Infrared device that can cut urinal costs November 1st 2004 Known for its washroom water-saving systems, Cistermiser has produced an updated calculation showing how much money its technology can save on water supply and sewerage costs.
Based on its Cistermiser Infrared Control (IRC), the company estimates possible cash savings of around £400 per cistern when comparing the IRC with uncontrolled automatic flushing cisterns in men’s urinals.
Assumptions include a charge of £1.58 per cubic metre for metered water and sewerage, and four 9L flushes an hour when an IRC is not used. With flushing 24h a day all year round, the annual cost is almost £500 per cistern.
Cistermiser says that with an IRC flushing can be restricted to a maximum of two per hour for 16h a day on 250 days a year, costing little over £100 and giving savings of almost £400.
The Cistermiser device includes state-of-the-art electronics and can be powered either by mains electricity or long-lasting batteries.
It can be mounted either directly on the pipework which is useful for retrofits, on the wall, or ceilingmounted out of the reach of potential vandals. It is activated by passive infrared PIR sensing of users.
Alternative products include the lower-cost Cistermiser hydraulic water-saving valves and Cistermiser Washroom control (CWC) that can save hot and cold water and electricity for lighting and extractor fans throughout adjacent men’s and women’s washrooms and nearby kitchens or utility rooms.
For urinals without automatic flushing cisterns, the company offers Easyflush, a direct flush system that can be hidden from vandals. |
