Automatic centrifuges May 1st 2007 Two heavy-duty centrifuges from
Centriquip have helped Pilkington
Special Glass in North Wales
improve its waste handling process.
The centrifuges remove glass
grounds from coolant, allowing the
glass to be disposed of safely and
the clarified water returned to the
process.
The glass contains more than
50% lead oxide and is made as a
plate which must then be ground
smooth and polished. The process
produces a slurry of white water
coolant and fine glass grounds.
The high lead content means that
waste is classified as hazardous,
so requires safe disposal.
Before installing the centrifuges,
the company used a filter bag
system that was slow and required
manual handling.
The type AS460 automatic
centrifuges have enabled the
company to double throughput of
waste material and produce a
clearer water stream for
recirculation. More articles from Centriquip Ltd: |
