Costs cut at Coats Crafts
November 1st 2005

Two Randalls Simpak 1800 static waste compactors have been installed at Coats Crafts UK in Darlington by Foreman Recycling, the site's waste management contractor.

The compactors replace open top bins that had a smaller capacity and needed to be emptied frequently, incurring transport and labour costs.

Compacting waste has given Coats a 75% reduction in associated transport cost.

Clean cardboard boxes are the main waste product and are collected in a Simpak 1800 static compactor for recycling at Foreman's Spennymoor site.

A total of 250t of cardboard is recycled at this site every week, most of which is then exported to China and the Far East.

A second Simpak compactor is used to compact non-recyclable general waste for disposal to landfill.

Randalls compactors are made from premium grade materials, equipped with hydraulic and electric components and delivered in an anti-corrosive, high build, one-coat finish. The charge box has a nominal capacity of 1.7m3 and 7.5kW motor drives up to a nominal 130m3/h, at a compaction force of 28 000kgf. The Simpak 1800 has a main control panel and main isolator inside the rear of the machine.
