On free loan
March 1st 2004

Sony United Kingdom has started baling the waste polythene film at its NDC in Newbury using a KK18 baling machine from KK Balers.

The polythene, which previously went to landfill, is collected by Bestway Recycling in London for processing in the UK. In addition to paying for the waste polythene, Bestway has provided the baling equipment on free loan to Sony.

At present the site produces about five bales a week, but this will increase by at least 100% from June as the company starts to prepare for Christmas trading. The current cost savings of about 50 per week will improve as tonnage increases and landfill charges escalate.
