Manual washing eliminated July 1st 2004 Following the installation of a Drr Ecoclean 71W aqueous washing machine at Mercedes-Ilmor in Brixworth, the company has eliminated manual washing of components between machining and manual deburring type processes, and significantly cut manual degreasing.
David Warner, the engine build team leader, believes the washing machine, from StarragHeckert UK, has proved its worth. He says The Drr Ecoclean dramatically increased our component cleaning capacity and enabled us to meet production schedules for engine components that we could never have achieved with our previous equipment. We reckon it is the capability of the three-stage filtration that ensured we had no engine failures during the race season that we could put down to cleanliness/quality issues on production.
The team standardised on just eight different wash programs at the Siemens S7 plc control system involving washing, rinsing, warm air drying and vacuum drying. More articles from StarragHeckert UK Ltd: |
