Second 6kw laser cutting system
September 1st 2008

Just 18 months after commissioning the UK's first 6kW Bystronic Bystar 3015 laser cutting system, Precision Profiles Laser Division has placed an order with Bystronic UK for a similar system, only this time the machine is of 4 x 2.5m bed size. The order is valued in excess of £500 000.

The company invested in its first Bystronic laser in 2002, followed by a second in 2003. Both feature 3.5kW resonators and are used to produce components in a wide range of materials for a variety of customers.

The company wanted to move into the 20 – 25 mm material thickness market resulting in the purchase of the first 6kW system.

Chris Southworth, material manager, says "When we took the decision to invest in the 6kW laser to enable us to handle thicker gauge materials the natural choice was Bystronic." One of the Bystronic systems is due to be replaced and the company again opted for the 4025 Bystar. It felt that a larger bed size would allow it to have more 2500mm x 1250mm plates on the bed at any one time, reducing machining down time.
