Eco-friendly elastic staples
May 1st 2007

The Fastener Division of Avery Dennison believes that manufacturers and packaging companies can do more to reduce waste and environmental damage.

Its Variable Needle System (VNS) uses eco-friendly elastic staples weighing only 0.042g each.

This system was showcased on Stand 4600 at this year's Total exhibition. The Elastic Staple is claimed to be a cost-effective solution for attaching products to backing cards and is a suitable replacement for cable or twist ties and metal staples, as well as more expensive packaging options such as blister and clam packs. The system is said to benefit the packager, retailer and consumer by offering an economical, safe and environmentally sound way of fastening products to card, using only the minimal amount of packaging materials. A wide range of irregularly shaped products can be fastened using the VNS, which can be used manually or integrated into automated packaging lines.
