Hole accuracy from new drill January 1st 2009 A gearbox manufacturer is
reaping the benefits of an
Xtra.tec B4213 insert drill
from Walter GB.
The device is achieving the
desired ±0.05mm machining
accuracy, machining bores
quickly and achieving
extended tool life such that it
paid for itself in six months.
Used in the production of
a series of 12 bores of 28mm
dia by 80mm deep in GG25
wind turbine
gearbox housings,
the insert drill has
helical flute and inner
and outer indexable Tiger-tec
inserts, each having four
cutting edges.
Used at a feed rate three
times higher than the drill it
replaced, the Xtra.tec B4213
is said to achieve an increase
in tool life of about 60m per
edge.
It is available in diameters
from 16.5 to 35mm – a range
that will shortly be expanded. More articles from Walter (GB Limited): |
