Smarter than the average dryer
January 1st 2006

Parker Hannifin's Process Air and Gas Filtration Division says its latest Balston SMART Dryers combine coalescing technology with a proven membrane system to supply clean, dry compressed air with dewpoints as low as -40°C.

Suitable for highly sensitive applications, Parker claims the 5000 Series membrane air dryers reduce operating costs, eliminate downtime and repairs that can result from dirty, wet compressed air supplies. It also believes the provide better performance than both noncycling and cycling refrigerant air dryers.

Operation involves passing compressed air through a high efficiency coalescing filter that removes 99.99% of oil and water droplets and particulate contamination down to 0.01 micron in size. The remaining water vapour is removed via a membrane, which consists of hollow fibres only permeable to water vapour. Dry air is then piped to the application.

Parker says the SMART Dryers are easy to install and operate, are low cost and reliable, can operate 24 hours a day unattended and require just five minutes annual maintenance for a prefilter cartridge change.
