A digital, coolant-proof micrometer with data output is available from Mitutoyo.

The Series 293 micrometer is rated to ip65 level to ensure continued operation in spite of the splashes of coolant an instrument often receives when used to measure a workpiece mounted on a machine tool. The instruments also cope with low pressure jets of coolant, even taking an inadvertent drenching in their stride.

Four models cover measurement needs across the range 0 to 100mm with a resolution of 0.001mm and to accuracies as per din 863-1.

Each model incorporates an insulated frame design that minimises heat transfer to the instrument due to extended handling, and so temperature-induced measurement error is avoided.

Ratchet-stop and ratchet-thimble versions are offered for all sizes, with a choice of friction thimble for the 0-25mm model.
