Wet blast machines November 1st 2004 BI Composites has installed in its Cannock factory two Vaqua wet blast surface preparation machines from Abrasive Developments.
The company uses similar machines at its Halesowen plant and bought the Vaqua Jupiter and Vaqua Komet to help keep pace with increasing demand for its composite products.
Manually operated, the new machines are used for surface preparation of the composite parts prior to bonding or high frequency welding.
Abrasive Developments says the wet blast process gives a more effective and consistent pre-bond surface key than other surface preparation methods, and with no damage to the fibrous substrate.
As it is a wet process, there is no danger of static build-up and the simultaneous abrading and washing action eliminates residual surface contamination. Additional degreasing operations are unnecessary. Following surface preparation, parts are simply air dried prior to progressing to finishing and assembly stations.
