e-BOT wins technology award
July 1st 2007 Yamazaki Mazak has been
presented with the Nikkei
Manufacturing award for its e-BOT
CELL 720. The award is presented
to factories or research facilities
that develop efficient
manufacturing methods to
compete with countries with lower labour
costs. The e-BOT CELL 720
is designed for unmanned
operation over extended periods. It
comprises a multi-tasking CNC
machine tool and an intelligent
robot that can automatically detect
correct workpiece orientation. The
system can manufacture,
unmanned, a variety of workpieces
in small batch sizes for 720 hours
(24 hrs x 30 days). Labour
requirements are claimed to be
reduced by 80% and in-process
time by 60%, while realising uptime
rates well over 90%.
