Torque control solution September 1st 2008 Crane Electronics has
supplied a TMAC
Opta system with
an IS
WrenchMaster to
a UK vehicle
assembly plant,
where a new
torque application
requires the accurate
tightening of the exhaust
manifold to its
petrol engines.
The system
recognises those engines
that require additional
tightening before they are
fitted to a vehicle. A Poke
Yoke error proofing system
was used informing the
supervisor of any
problems.
Crane Electronics'
solution was to
interface a
TMAC
Opta with
the engine
conveyor belt.
This involved liaising
with a sub-contractor at the
plant, who installed the
facility and then integrated
the TMAC Opta's
input/output capability to
the production line control.
Every time a petrol engine
is fed to the conveyor belt,
the control system stops
the engine on station. The
operator knows that
fasteners on the engine
manifold have to be
tightened using the IS
WrenchMaster tool.
The TMAC Opta gives the
operator visual indication
once the final torque has
been achieved.
All torque results are
saved and processed by
the TMAC Opta. More articles from Crane Electronics Ltd: |
