SHOT PEENING MACHINE November 1st 2003 A special shot peening machine has been developed by Vacu-Blast International. It is said to substantially improve the resistance to fatigue and to extend the service life of gearboxes, driveshafts, high performance gears and other critical automotive transmission components.
The machine can increase torque characteristics by up to 30%, claims the company. An additional benefit claimed is the slight dimpling of the component surface created, that assists lubrication.
Based on shot peening process technology proven in the aerospace industry, the machine provides the flexibility to peen components ranging in diameter from 50 to 300mm and up to 750mm in length. It is totally automatic, using pre-selectable programs dedicated to each component type to ensure precise repeatability of the residual compressive stress produced by the peening process. Production rates to 500 parts per hour can be achieved.
The peening enclosure measures 1250 by 1000 by 1350mm high and components are retained in special fixtures on a powered indexing turntable. More articles from ISPC Vacu-Blast Limited: |
