Crisp manufacturer, Tayto from Northern Ireland, has installed a second Centriquip decanter to provide effective wastewater treatment. Payback is expected to be about 12 months.

One of the machines handles starch from the cold-slice effluent stream; the other dewaters process water used for washing potatoes.

The starch machine reduces starch-laden effluent stream to 60% dry solids, while the process water machine dewaters process water, recovering soil and sand washed from potatoes for use as a fertiliser.

Savings come from two main areas: the revenue from the sale of starch; and from the substantially reduced effluent disposal costs.

The CQ3500 and new CQ5000 quickly pay for themselves and have proved trouble-free for Tayto.
