Heavy work
July 1st 2005

When Horstmann Group was contracted to install two 40t rubbish processing vessels for a waste station in Tyneside, LGH Megalift and Mayfield Engineering solved its lifting problem Each vessel had to be installed on two pairs of steel support legs, one pair being 8.5m high, the other 7.5m high. This provides the inclination necessary to progress refuse down rotating vessels and over size-sorting screens.

It was thought that the vessels could be installed using two mobile cranes but, after unsuccessful attempts by a crane hire company, this idea was abandoned Instead, Mayfield Engineering used LGH Megalift hydraulic gantry systems for the installation of the two vessels. The project took just four days to complete at a cost that was said to be less than any alternative solution.
