Saw cuts lead times

A fully automatic band-saw, supplied by Birkett Cutmaster to the Huddersfield factory of Longwood Engineering, has allowed the manufacturer of environmental screening systems to reduce manufacturing times for a number of key components. Providing an effective combination of speed and accuracy, the Amada HA253 horizontal band-saw enables Longwood Engineering to cut multiple quantities of stainless steel chain wheel blanks in a third of the time taken by previous cutting arrangements. The saws precise cutting capability eliminates the need for machining prior to the production process and, due to its fully automated control system, has also reduced the need for continuous operator attention. Tony Atkins, production manager, says With lead times for the supply of these essential components greatly reduced, we have more flexibility in scheduling and reducing our production times to satisfy customer requirements.
