Green grind
July 1st 2006

Already a basic ingredient in products such as clothing, rope, cosmetics and building materials, hemp is now being used in grinding and finishing operations.

The Plantex flap is imported by Engineering Utilities and is available at the same cost as conventional flap disks. A spokesperson for the company says "This is a really exciting and innovative product. Not only does it significantly cut down noise and dangerous waste, it continues to grind to the last millimetre because of the automatic trimming during grinding. The organic properties of hemp as a renewable resource make it a green alternative to fibre glass disks.

"As employers and employees come under increasingly stringent health and safety at work legislation, the Plantex flap disc system is revolutionising our industry."
