Akza Nobel chooses batch control November 1st 2006 Power automation technology group ABB has been chosen to supply Akza Nobel with a batch control system for the production of cellulose derivatives at its operation in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden. The batch control system, which is based on ABB's automation system 800xA, forms part of a major investment project to improve productivity, and involves the installation of a new reactor, upgrade of joint production equipment, and safety classification of parts of the production facilities. ABB is also providing an integrated safety system to replace obsolete safety solutions, and a feasibility study of the further expansion of the batch system to cover the entire production chain from tree to sack. Additionally, ABB has a two-year service agreement with Akzo Nobel that offers free access to upgrades for the 800xAsystem. The agreement also covers preventative maintenance and field services.
