January 1st 2007 Sensonics has updated its Sentry overspeed protection system that deals with turbine overspeed problems and trip failures in the power generation industry. The company was recently asked to supply a special, small package, functional safety system for a customer and it was this request that accelerated plans to design a more compact system. The system has been repackaged into a single 3 U sentry rack of six modules, incorporating 3 Sentry speed/overspeed monitor modules, a 2 out of 3 voting module trip defeat and half speed trip facilities, and two power supply modules which together offer dual redundancy; one PSU can be swapped if faulty, while the system runs from the other PSU.
