Friction welding machine July 1st 2007 Aviatec has taken delivery
of a refurbished Model 50
from Thompson, for friction
welding a wide range of
components such as
reinforcing bars, piston
rods, hydraulic cylinders,
drill pipes and pump shafts.
The Thompson machine
has been equipped with
special 2 and 3 jaw chucks
and tie-bars so that parts up
to 3m in length can be
friction welded.
It also features
Thompson's computersied
system for in-process weld
monitoring and control.
Thompson was able to
complete the machine
within a very tight
timeframe, ensuring Aviatec
could boost its capacity in
order to meet an upturn in
its business.
Thompson is enjoying a
healthy order book after
winning more than £6m
worth of new business from
customers in Europe,
America and the Far East,
particularly from
manufacturers of drill rods
