Shipweld winners announced at Babcock
September 1st 2011

Babcock at Rosyth recently held its ESAB ShipWeld competition, with 18 apprentices taking part.

The winner of a highly competitive event was Mathew Lynch who was presented with a New-Tech welding helmet by Cheron Robinson, ESAB publicity manager. Runner-up Ivan Thompson was presented with an Origo-Tech welding helmet, and all competitors received certificates and prizes to recognize their efforts.

Both Lynch and Thompson will take part in the ShipWeld grand final at Rosyth in November. Cheron Robinson complimented all the apprentices on their efforts: "ShipWeld is now an established part of the training programme at British shipyards and as the competition grows in stature we see the quality of welding go up year-on-year.

"The final at Babcock will be a great showcase for the industry's apprentices."
