Shipweld winners announced at Babcock September 1st 2011 Babcock at Rosyth recently
held its ESAB ShipWeld
competition, with 18
apprentices taking part.
The winner of a highly
competitive event was
Mathew Lynch who was
presented with a New-Tech
welding helmet by Cheron
Robinson, ESAB publicity
manager. Runner-up Ivan
Thompson was presented
with an Origo-Tech welding
helmet, and all competitors
received certificates and
prizes to recognize their
efforts.
Both Lynch and
Thompson will take part in
the ShipWeld grand final at
Rosyth in November.
Cheron Robinson
complimented all the
apprentices on their efforts:
"ShipWeld is now an
established part of the
training programme at
British shipyards and as the
competition grows in stature
we see the quality of welding
go up year-on-year.
"The final at Babcock will
be a great showcase for the
