Weld cleaning September 1st 2007 The heat treatment of stainless
steels, in particular when welding,
can create troublesome oxide
layers which have to be removed.
In addition to mechanical
processes such as grinding,
brushing, shot-blasting, chemical
processes with aggressive pickling
pastes have traditionally been used.
The stainless steel ISOJET III's
thermo-chemical method is said by
Surface Technology Products
(Surtech) to be faster, less
hazardous and more ecological. Its
wand and electrolytes ensure that
only oxide layers generated by the
heat treatment are removed. The
company says this guarantees that
optical surface smoothness is
preserved. The cleaned work piece
merely has to be rinsed with water
and protected with a spray to
preserve the passive layer required
for the corrosion resistance of steel. More articles from Surface Technology Products Limited: |
